NYLON House Unveils Its First-Ever Dance 100 List, Topped by John Summit

NYLON has announced the launch of its inaugural NYLON House Dance 100, a new annual ranking celebrating the artists defining the sound, culture, and future of global dance music. Claiming the top spot is John Summit, named the No. 1 DJ of 2026 and featured as the cover star of NYLON‘s debut Dance 100 issue — a milestone that signals the brand’s bold entry into the global dance music space.

NYLON interviewed John in advance of this announcement and the article can be read here.

The Dance 100 serves as the centerpiece of NYLON House, the publication’s newly launched vertical dedicated to dance music and nightlife culture. Rounding out the top tier of the list alongside John Summit are Skrillex, Fred Again.., and Anyma, representing a cross-section of the genre’s most influential voices right now. A special print edition of the issue will be available during Miami Music Week, giving the launch an anchor in one of the dance world’s most celebrated annual gatherings.

“Dance music has become one of the most influential forces in global culture, shaping everything from nightlife and fashion to how young audiences experience music,” said BDG CEO Bryan Goldberg. “NYLON has always been at the center of major cultural movements, and NYLON House is our way of building a true editorial home for the artists, communities, and scenes driving dance music forward.”

Rather than relying on fan voting or algorithmic data, NYLON assembled an industry-led judging panel of over sixty professionals — including promoters, agents, managers, label executives, venue operators, tastemakers, and media leaders from across the U.S. and around the world. Each DJ was scored on a 1-to-10 scale across six criteria: streaming impact, live presence, cultural influence and virality, audience engagement, artistic innovation, and professional standing.

The list was conceived as a real-time snapshot of dance music’s current moment, with judges encouraged to weigh recent impact and sustained relevance equally alongside creative integrity and cultural influence. Judges were also invited to nominate underrepresented artists, reinforcing NYLON‘s commitment to reflecting the full breadth of the global dance music ecosystem — across genres, geographies, and career stages. Over 60 dance music industry participants helped make the selections going into the list.

The judges rated the DJs on a 1-10 scale using professional judgment across six core criteria:

  • Streaming Impact: Overall presence on streaming platforms, playlists, live-streamed sets, and in broader cultural conversation.
  • Live Presence: Touring consistency, residencies, sold-out shows, and major upcoming bookings.
  • Cultural Influence & Virality: Ability to drive conversation, shape online culture, and resonate with a chronically online generation.
  • Audience Reach & Engagement: Depth of fan connection at shows, online, and around releases.
  • Artistic Innovation: Creative risk-taking and boundary-pushing in sound, style, and presentation.
  • Professional Standing: Peer respect, authenticity, and demonstrated production skills.

While momentum and visibility played a role, the Dance 100 was built to capture dance music as it stands right now. Judges were asked to assess artists through the lens of the present moment — weighing sustained impact and current relevance equally alongside artistic integrity, creativity, and cultural influence. To ensure the list reflected the full breadth of the global scene, judges were also invited to champion artists they felt were flying under the radar, underscoring NYLON’s commitment to representing the dance music ecosystem across genres, geographies, and career stages.
