Julie Bergan Talks Independence and 'Dance All Night' [Interview]

Over the past year, Julie Bergan has taken full control of her narrative. From launching her own label, Karate Records, to curating a visual and sonic world on her terms, she’s proven that independence doesn’t mean going smaller—it means getting locked in. With over 900 million streams, platinum-certified releases, and performances alongside Dua Lipa, Alan Walker, and Justin Bieber, Bergan has moved from pop hitmaker to fully self-driven powerhouse.

Her EURONITES EP has served as the blueprint for this shift. Each track introduced another layer—from bold and glossy to raw and personal—held together by tight production and undeniable intent. A reintroduction of sorts.

She closes it out with “Dance All Night”, the final installment that leans fully into release-mode. Fast, charged, and ready for peak hour. If EURONITES focuses on building her own world, “Dance All Night” is the sound of unlocking the doors and letting everyone in.

With EURONITES now complete and a new chapter ahead, we caught up with Julie to talk independence, creative risk, and what’s coming next.

[See Interview Below]

Launching your own label represents a major step. Could you share a memorable highlight along with a challenging moment you've encountered?

Answer: I think the fact that I now have complete artistic freedom and I’m always the person to have the last word is both the best and most challenging thing. I love to feel like I can do anything but it can also feel pretty frightening at times. But I definitely grow the most when I’m outside my comfort zone, so taking on this new role in my career feels very rewarding. With all the ups and downs that includes!

In "Eternity Tonight" you include a classic sample. What prompted you to incorporate that nostalgic element?

Answer: «Rosa Helikopter» was one of those songs I grew up listening to, and just never stopped loving. Also one of those iconic songs that made me love eurodance! So when I kept coming back to that song and those melodies again and again even as a grown up I was just baffled when I found out that no one sampled it yet. So when I came to the studio one day and the people I worked with loved it too the choice was pretty simple. We just had to do it! We had soooo much fun and the lyrics and verses just ran out of us cus the original melody felt so inspiring and playful. And I think everyone loves a good melody they can recognize!

EURONITES appears to mark a turning point. Did you envision it that way from the start, or did it unfold on its own?

Answer: I never envisioned it to be that way actually, but it happened quite naturally as I’ve written a lot of dance music through the years and also done a lot of DJ features. That probably made me love the genre even more. The song that kicked of the «Euronites» journey was «Kiss Me Better», which I originally wrote as a DJ pitch, but I found myself listening to it all the time and figured I just had to release it myself. Finally I just embraced that side of me, but not only as a feature anymore. It definitely lit a spark in me, and the whole process of writing the EP honestly just feels like a fun adventure where I’ve enjoyed every second of it.

Taking charge of the production and direction of "Kiss Me Better" - how did that experience shape your view of your sound?

Answer: It definitely helped me create my own eurodance sound palette in a way, which has had a huge impact on how this whole EP ended up sounding. It’s definitely not the first time I’ve produced, but it’s the first time I’ve been recognized as a producer, which made me gain a lot of confidence when it comes to my role in the studio! I think that’s been very positive for my creative process, not only when it comes to writing, but also everything creative around «Euronites».

When someone experiences EURONITES for the first time, what impression do you hope they carry with them?

Answer: Music makes me feel alive! I feel a joy and a community that nothing else in this world can give me, so I really hope to give someone else that feeling too. For me, music is emotions and energy, and it’s a personal core in everything I write, but also the best way to connect with other people. It's great to create and listen to music to process something sad, but I think it's just as important to have songs that give joy and energy. And maybe «Euronites» can make someone take a break for a little while? Just forget about everything and live in the now. I think the dance floor is a nice metaphor, but also actually a place where an alternative type of mindfulness can take place. It’s easier to be present in yourself when it’s dark and warm and packed with loud music and energy!
