The Breakbeat That’s Hitting in the LA Underground

In light of TATE SEDAR‘s new release ‘Overload’ he brings us a handpicked selection of tracks the LA underground has beckoned during his sets. His unique perspective on dance music spans from progressive trance to breakbeat, and today he’s sharing some gems.

TATE SEDAR

“Easy to You” – FACTORe & SCHROEDS

“I was hooked on this one instantly when co-producer and an engineer I work with SCHROEDS sent it to me back in June [2024]. This cut blends progressive sounds I’m drawn to from the days I listened to trance as well tasteful vocals plus a melody that sticks [in your head] like glue and crisp drums. I’m playing this everywhere: in my sets, at home and on my car radio.”

“The Count” – Prato

“Prato is an artist that I was nodded to by SCHROEDS who blends electro house and breaks seamlessly like in “OVERLOAD.” “The Count,” like its name, feels like you’re getting twisted through frames of a vampire thriller film. Its artist’s sounds definitely deserve more attention and this is a track you may hear me spin both in a commercial or underground setting.”

“Put The New Needle” – Aggresivnes

Aggresivnes constantly ranks on the Breaks charts of Beatport and is a name I’m always magnetized to. It’s hard for me to pick a creation of his I don’t like, so I have to go with one of the two tracks I first found of his: “Put the New Needle” [and the other being “Our Night”]. Another pick you may hear by me play in a commercial or underground setting.”

“Sublimation” – Disaffected

“Although a newer name for myself, Disaffected has been making waves over the last 5 years. “Sublimation” does what its titles means: its audio takes you on a cinematic, breakbeat journey that undermines what can be considered cinematic or breakbeat in music. A perfect closer or near-closing selection for a set in a warehouse, but maybe even suitable for some mainstage settings.”

“Run Away!” – Moore Kismet

“If you don’t already know Omar Davis (Moore Kismet), the 19 year-old expertise in bass music and tastemaker standing with the likes of Skrillex or Isoknock – it’s time you do. “Run Away!” leans more towards UKG, with its first drop being in halftime, but the second drop fully eclipses the project into something major and unforgettable. Would also recommend their “huemor” EP, and this track is also something I would rinse in the underground or a bass-welcoming commercial set.”
