3 Reasons elrow is Uniquely Special and Miami’s Basel Closing Party is a Can’t Miss

elrow has announced the lineup for the Miami edition of its new hyper-sensory concept Hallucinarium, taking place at Factory Town in Miami on December 8th. What is so special about elrow that will make this event memorable? Yes, this one is in collaboration with Alex and Allyson Gray, but this event has made waves around the world for so many reasons, that is somehow only a small part of how special the event is.

Let’s dive into what makes elrow special and worth attending not only this time, but every time.

Only a couple of years ago before diving in, I believed the dance music world was one big blob. I really stopped to sneer at the idea the people gathering to see a DJ could be anything but that surface level analysis.

But now after dozens of sets jam packed into only 24 months time, the desire to shock my expectations on a multitude of levels is the name of the game.

And since moving to south Florida this last September, Elrow is looking to scratch that itch for me as we cap off 2024.

So, what is it that makes elrow so special? What is it that’s drawing me in?

1. The Visual Aspect

There’s something about the world bending dynamic of when art meets sound. Elrow seems to have a strong grasp of this.

One look at this room at it feels like Green Velvet went b2b with Salvador Dali. If I had to come up with a single word to describe the scenery of elrow: alien. The theme being Hallucinarium, this won’t be easy to forget and for all the best reasons.

Doused in color, vibrant from wall to wall, and artwork bled into every nook and cranny of the area. This experience seems to take the very essence of Art Basel and concentrate it down to it’s most necessary elements. If there’s one thing I appreciate about dance music, I’d have to say it’s the immersive aspect to it.

Hearing loud bass, seeing people move in unison is the baseline of what to expect.

But this event steps it up and says your eyeballs will be tired from so much stimulation. And honestly, that’s what I’m here for. But when I gauge what an experience meant to me, a big piece of that is how clear the memories are.

It’s easy to have details of seeing my favorite artist at the same amphitheater I’ve seen 100 others at go fuzzy because the environment is pretty mundane. A real “been there, done that” vibe.

But even with most of the artists on the setlist being completely new to me – the staying power of the whole presentation is what will have me telling stories for years to come.

“I danced my ass off to Hugel Sunday night at elrow! The room was trippy as Hell and I can’t wait until next year” seems about right. Whether this is your first time at this event or your umpteenth, chances are those memories will stick.

2. The People

Dance music for me is one part rest and relaxation. I am here to enjoy myself and to not worry about what the outside world has to throw at me for maybe an evening. Sometimes maybe a whole weekend. But the scene is also something else for me entirely and that is: a networking function.

Have you ever gone to a professional networking event? Save for possible booze, most of them aren’t enjoyable.

Not for me, anyway.

If you’re going to build your business or add some levels to your brand, it’s necessary to get out and talk to people. But how one chooses to do this is another deal entirely. And within the scene I’ve not only found my best friends here in south Florida…

But those people have turned into connections to meet other amazing people, both friends and business clients alike.

Miami especially seems to be filled with a great blend of both young movers and shakers fresh to life. But also a segment of the populous that has that seasoned experience we all seek to learn from. Not to mention, being the domestic dance capital – there is no shortage of people looking to live life on their own terms and really cut loose in a way only South Florida can.

So when I am in a room of people who decided to spend their weekend at Elrow, do you think I’m going to have a problem making friends? Survey says: no.

I want to make memories and walk away with new friends. It’s how I started writing for this site. I believe in operating within a win/win philosophy and creating that relationship with other people with the same mindset.

When the vibes are high and the fun times flow, this is where we look back at meeting in the Hallucinarium as the start of something beautiful.

I want to go where the likeminded are and to narrow it down to this venue, at this time – you’re bound to walk away with some incredible stories and connections.

3. The Sounds

Fun fact: I never gave house music a chance until my first trip to Miami just last year. Having grown up in the Myspace era of the mid 00’s to early 2010’s, I still hold the spirit of the kid wearing skinny jeans typing rawr XDDD. Of course, bumping emo jams concerned with sadboi lyrics.

That spirit followed me to dance music where my fashion sense is better, but I’ve often opted for the biggest crybanger around. And for at least the first year of this journey turned my nose up at house, techno, Latin vibes.

Kinda crazy how a little time in South Florida can change all that.

Truth be told, I don’t know many of the artists appearing at Elrow by name. Maybe 10%…but to say I’m excited to learn is an understatement. If there’s a vibe I wish I indulged in earlier, this is it.

Maybe it’s because I’m getting older and my back hurts with greater intensity than it used to…I’d like to think of it as maturing.

As my good friend and mentor in the space revealed to me at the same time and place, “this isn’t always about going hard. Sometimes it’s about getting lost in  something chill and smooth. And then being presently surprised when the dj does something minute and clever.”

I’d have to say, that’s spot on. Maturing into looking forward to something like Hugel, Max Styler, Paco Osuna feels so fresh and full of inexperience.

I don’t know the transitions, I can’t say I’ve seen the artist x amount of times…I’m a clean slate looking to dive in fully to this world of vibes that is so native to South Florida.

In conclusion, I think what I’m looking forward to most is that Elrow seems to check all the boxes for me.

It’s not just an event – it’s an experience.

This isn’t just a place you’ll see and forget – the room itself is art.

The event is not what I’ve come to know – it’s everything I’m excited to dive into.

These aren’t people I’ll meet once and then never see again because I’m going back home to Missouri – they’re my new friends just an hour or so away.

Looking forward to reporting back in 2025. Get your tickets here!
