The List: a new place to raise money for charity and celebrate D&B artists

The drum & bass community continues to find new ways of raising money for charity this month with The List.

A brand-new project launched by rising talent Anna Key, The List began as a one-off project to compile all womxn D&B acts and all male D&B acts on separate canvases to raise money for breast cancer awareness and prostate cancer awareness respectively. Now, however, the project has expanded into something more long-term and inclusive.

“We had so many people interested in getting involved, I came to realise the list will always need to be added to,” Anna explains. “So now it’s expanded a little and the vision is to create the biggest list of jungle and drum & bass artists in history and keep on doing things like events and merch.”

The first big project remains the canvases. Embedded below, they include as many of the scene’s names as possible. If all goes to plan, the canvases will also include signatures from some of the leading lights in the genre who’ve got behind the project. A Justgiving page has also been launched and donations for Macmillan Cancer Support are starting to build momentum.

“The support has been amazing,” Anna tells us. “Celebrating artists is really important to us. Whether you’re a legend in the scene, or a newcomer who’s really inspired and breaking through, you need to be celebrated. Especially during these times of unsurety and lockdowns. People have put in a lot of hard work and it’s important to recognise that.”

Prints of the canvases will also be sold to raise additional money for Breast Cancer UK and Prostate Cancer UK, two vital organisations committed to fighting a disease that affects so many of us.  According to Cancer Research UK, approximately 375,000 new cancer cases are recorded every year in the UK. That’s around 1000 every day and more than one every two minutes.

“I lost my nan to cancer and my step mum nearly passed away from it too,” says Anna who also experienced a cancer scare last year. “A good friend of ours from America passed away from prostate cancer, too. He came over from Texas to support one of my hard house events in Birmingham, which really hit me. He didn’t tell anyone because he didn’t want to be a burden. That was heart breaking to hear. So, as much as raising money for cancer organisations is super important, raising awareness is too, which is what I hope The List will do.”

With future plans to raise awareness for mental health and money for MIND, The List has exciting potential in the future. For now, it’s been launched this month and names can be submitted to Anna via The List Facebook page.
