By now you are likely familiar with OddKidOut, and if you aren’t, his new EP ‘WEIGHTLESS’ is worth your attention. The 27-year-old multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer has caught the ears of many, most notably San Holo, who is a part of the EP and whose label bitbird is behind the EP. ‘WEIGHTLESS’ is one of, if not the most, well-rounded piece of work the young producer has put out yet and we got to catch up with him to talk about what went into the making of it and more.

TSS: Your EP ‘WEIGHTLESS’ is here. How do you feel?
OddKidOut: I’m stoked. This is one of my favorite projects I’ve ever put out. It’s got a range of vibes, all of which I love. I love the artwork, and I got to collab with a bunch of homies!
TSS: How do you say this EP defines where you’ve come so far in your career?
OKO: I think sonically, it really represents how my sound has changed and shifted over time. I’m starting to really find my path, and this EP is very much a part of self-discovery.
TSS: The EP is released on bitbird. How has the label and San Holo helped you along during the creative process?
OKO: Bitbird is such an amazing label that really focuses on letting the artists be themselves. That’s super important to me. San has put me under his wing recently and has inspired me not only, but also in life.
TSS: You also got to collaborate with San Holo for the EP on “CLOUDY STORIES,” how was that?
OKO: It was dope and super organic. We were just jamming one night, and the song kind ofjust happened unplanned. Hanging with San is the best.
TSS: You tabbed Young Viridii, ellie d., Artemis Orion, and Cecilia Gault as collaborators. What did each of them add to each of their respective songs on the EP, and what was it like working with them?
OKO: They each added a voice to their respective songs. Collaborating, for me, is all about letting the other person do their thing, not dictating. And these songs are true representations of that mantra.
TSS: “WISH YOU WELL” and “THIEF” were the two singles released ahead of the EP.What can you say about each of those songs, and what made them the singles?
OKO: “THIEF” was a show favorite, and I had to get it out earlier because I was spinning it so often. And the same deal with “WISH YOU WELL,” as I was also closing my sets with that song. THIEF is so cool to me because I haven’t made anything else that sounds remotely close to that song in my life, and “WISH YOU WELL” just puts a smile on my face.
TSS: And we don’t want to forget about “APOLOGIZE.” Can you describe the process of making this song and what it means to you?
OKO: “APOLOGIZE” is honestly one of my favorite songs I’ve ever made. It’s the only time I’ve really taken a stab at making color bass, and I tried to keep it OKO while doing it.
But what came out was this weird combo of multiple genres, and I love it. Cecilia sounds so good on it, too.
TSS: Now that ‘WEIGHTLESS’ is out, what is next for you?
OKO: More music, more shows, more life! I start the San Holo tour in October and can’t wait!
So there you have it! We are big fans of the EP and are excited to see what is next for OddKidOut. If San Holo’s Existential Dance Music tour is coming to your town, be sure to go not just for him but OKO as well. This EP proves he is someone who needs to be on your radar and not to be missed. Check the EP now up above through the link and we’ll see you at the next OKO show!
