It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maxi Jazz, the lead singer and frontman of the groundbreaking electronic group Faithless. Maxi, whose real name was Maximilian Paul Frank Jasper, was born on June 15, 1957 in Brixton, London, and passed away on last evening, December 23, 2022.

Maxi was best known for his distinctive voice and powerful stage presence, which helped to establish Faithless as one of the most influential and innovative groups in the electronic dance music scene. Over the course of their career, Faithless released a total of six studio albums, all of which were met with critical acclaim and commercial success. Their most successful single, “Insomnia,” became a global hit, reaching the top ten charts in multiple countries and earning the group a Brit Award for Best British Single in 1996.

In addition to his work with Faithless, Maxi also worked as a solo artist and collaborated with other musicians on various projects. He was a deeply talented and creative musician, and his contributions to the world of electronic dance music will not be forgotten.

A message was posted on Faithless’ social media today with the following tribute:

“He was a man who changed our lives in so many ways. He gave proper meaning and a message to our music. He was also a lovely human being with time for everyone and a wisdom that was both profound and accessible.

It was an honour and, of course, a true pleasure to work with him. He was a brilliant lyricist, DJ, Buddhist, a magnificent stage presence, car lover, endless talker, beautiful person, moral compass and genius. Rest in peace dearest Max.”
