There’s something electric about a hometown show. The Coca-Cola Roxy pulsed with that rare energy this past Saturday as Gryffin returned to Atlanta, delivering one of the most polished, euphoric performances the city’s electronic dance music scene has seen in recent memory.
But before the headliner took flight, the runway was paved in fire.
JD Farrell, Atlanta’s own, kicked off the evening with a set that reminded everyone why local talent often hits the hardest. He moved between deep grooves and melodic builds with surgical precision, reading the room like someone born to do this. It wasn’t just an opening, it was a hometown hero moment. One that set the tone and raised the bar.
Next came Lavern, the German maestro known for his lush, feel-good synths—but tonight, he brought heat. His live set struck a perfect balance between emotional and explosive. Every CO2 cannon blast seemed timed to perfection, giving the crowd—and photographers like myself—plenty to remember. Lavern not only kept the crowd dancing, he kept them connected, primed for the spectacle that followed.
Then… Gryffin took the stage.

This wasn’t the same Gryffin I last saw at Shaky Beats 2017, where we chopped it up at the artist bar overlooking Big Gigantic. This was a version evolved—refined, explosive, and emotionally layered. In the years since, he’s released Gravity (2019), Alive (2022), and most recently PULSE (2024), a bass-heavy, heart-forward album that has redefined his live show.

The second leg of the PULSE tour has injected new life into his set. With live guitar riffs slicing through cinematic drops, stunning vocal performances, and tightly choreographed visuals, Gryffin delivered a masterclass in modern live electronic music. At times, the crowd was in full sing-along mode; at others, they were left speechless in the haze of strobe light and emotion.
If you haven’t seen Gryffin lately, do yourself a favor—go. But be warned: this isn’t just a concert. It’s a “what did we just witness?” moment you’ll carry with you for months.
Atlanta showed up……Gryffin delivered.
