Brog (Brain fOG), the evocative recording project of multi-instrumentalist Lorn Potter, is poised to transport listeners to another dimension with the upcoming release of Projections, a mesmerizing electronic album dropping on August 30th, 2025. This latest offering from the Boulder, Colorado native turned Gold Coast, Australia resident is a sonic journey through ambient, psybient, and downtempo landscapes.
Projections is a testament to Brog‘s signature approach, unfiltered improvisation. Each track is born from the moment, sparked by a single sound that resonates with Potter, who then hits record and lets intuition guide the way. With minimal editing, the album captures the essence of happenstance, reflecting the fleeting beauty of lived experiences. Inspired by a trip to a lighthouse, a symbol of guidance and connection, the album channels the longing to reach across time and space, to connect with someone just out of reach. The cover art, a striking photograph of the moon at sunset captured by Potter himself, sets the tone for this celestial exploration.
Rooted in personal experiences, Projections invites listeners to drift into a state of calm introspection. The album’s chilled psyjazz soundscapes, blending ambient textures with downtempo grooves, aim to evoke peaceful thoughts in a world that often feels chaotic. Recorded entirely in Potter’s home studio, the album is a deeply personal creation, shaped by his lifelong passion for music and his eclectic influences, from 70s Tangerine Dream and Pink Floyd to punk, jazz, metal, and folk.
Lorn Potter’s musical journey began in Boulder, where he tinkered on the family piano as a child before mastering the trombone, bass, and guitar.
While in high school, the band Alibi got shut down by police at a gig in a Boulder parking lot. His days in the punk scene with Dead Silence, a band he co-founded, saw him playing raucous gigs, and opened for punk legends like T.S.O.L. and 7 Seconds. Later, he brought his basslines to Telluride’s Tribal Folk. A former ski and mountain bike bum, Potter’s adventurous spirit infuses his music with a sense of freedom and exploration.
As Brog, Potter has carved out a unique niche in the electronic music scene, blending improvisation with a chilled psyjazz aesthetic that sets him apart. Projections is a continuation of this vision, offering listeners a chance to escape, reflect, and find solace. Looking ahead, Potter hints at more music videos and recordings, promising to keep pushing the boundaries of his sonic universe.
