Germany has put forth the first official bill draft to legalize both personal use and home-growing operations of cannabis across the country.
According to Forbes, a two-pillar model will be used to end cannabis prohibition beginning with this initial first pillar.
Part of the bill includes the removal of cannabis from the country’s Narcotics Drugs Act to allow greater access to the drug for medical purposes as patients would not have to obtain a specialized prescription.
Furthermore, the legislation allows for the possession of up to 25 grams for those over the age of 18 and the legal growth of up to three cannabis plants at home.
Cannabis grower’s associations will be allowed to onboard up to 500 members under this bill in which members will be supplied a certain amount of seeds or cuttings.
The draft bill for the second pillar will be published later in 2023 and will focus on commercializing the supply of marijuana.
Writers of these new policies want to encourage other European countries to follow in legalization after Malta became the first European country to legalize marijuana with Luxembourg following suit.
