Aspen King made her debut into the electronic music scene in 2018 and her career has been skyrocketing ever since. After studying electronic music production in Vancouver, she has since become a major force in the BC music community. With Nu-House beats and Deep Bass, Aspen King will keep you moving all night. Don’t sleep on this one!
“Hiiii!! My name is Aspen King, that’s my real name…My parents didn’t even name me that.. my grandma’s boyfriend at the time did. My parents really liked it and went along with it because they were young hippies in love and liked trees. No I don’t ski or snowboard and no I’m not from Colorado. I grew up on a small island north of Vancouver island in British Columbia. I always loved electronic music growing up. Pretty sure I attended my first rave when I was a fetus in my mom’s womb. I grew up listening to music like: Bonobo, Jamie XX, Solomun, Claptone and The Gorillaz.
In grade 10 I had to make the decision to move off the island for a better school or move away to a smaller one with my family for their new job. My principal told me it would be really hard for me to ever get a job or be anything if I moved away… I didn’t listen to him and dropped out the day after our meeting. So I moved to a smaller island with a population of 200 summertime residents and a population of 5 in the winter.. just.. me, my two siblings and parents. I didn’t have any friends on the island, so I started producing music in my free time. I learned how to produce on my dad’s old laptop that would shut off randomly and was barely running. I had no idea what I was doing and the type of music I was making was god awful as well. My parents and my friends told me they have never seen me so passionate about something so I stuck with it and now I’m here.”

In 2012 she shifted her focus to developing her production sound and released her first independent single ‘Pussy’s Mine’.
After several free releases online, Wet Trax Records signed her first label release in 2015, a remix of Melleefresh & Boy Pussy’s ‘Naughty Girl’. During her first move to London in 2017 she wrote her debut EP ‘Don’t Stop’ which came out on her hometown label East Van Digital and shortly after, Germany’s TKRecords signed ‘Subterrane’, a two track Acid/ Techno release featuring remixes by Phutek and the label boss Torsten Kanzler. 2019 brought a deeper sound with her recent remix of La Fraicheur & Leonard De Leonard’s pulsing new single ‘Murky’. There are few acts on the west coast combining live instrumentation, high energy and gritty bass with the ferocity and craft than violinist Kytami and DJ/Producer Phonik Ops. They have made it their mission to create a truly unique sound that would be instantly recognizable as their own all the while drawing on their shared love of Drum n Bass, Hip Hop, Punk and Dance music. Since connecting at a festival in 2013 here in British Columbia, they have become one of the most intriguing acts, standing out in an already saturated musical landscape.
Kytami & Phonik Ops have continuously built up their fanbase with spectacular live shows and an ever-increasing catalogue of impactful music. Despite the challenges of the past year, this power duo has kept up with their forward momentum. They were invited to produce an exclusive guest mix for the esteemed DnB Show with Rene LaVice on BBC Radio 1. They also made waves with the performance they produced for the Shambhala At Home digital stream series and it was rebroadcast in the UK for Drum & Bass MC Bellyman’s Big Christmas show. The past six months also saw them release two singles, the most recent one being “Dead Batteries” which came out on Electric Love Records this May.
Manteasah’s sound resonates somewhere between a dark city street and a moonlit forest. The mysterious trio is rooted in Kelowna BC, tastefully curating electronic downtempo mixed with hip-hop, 80’s syncopated rhythms and a dusting of soul. When Makemdef’s clever word play and intricate production meets the sister’s dynamic harmonies and heavy-hitting instrumentation (Jodie B & Nique Blue), the perfect storm of dark atmospheric textures is transported to the listener.
Together they have collaborated with notable artists such as KRS-One, Kytami, Pineo & Loeb, K+Lab and more. Combining elements of the groups other projects (Chuurch, Jodie B) with quotable-worthy bars and hooks, this troupe’s chemistry is committed to causing chain-reactions on dancefloors – all while handing over the keys to decode the cryptic and subtle nuances in their lyrical offerings as food for thought.

Scott A, widely known as Vinyl Ritchie (or by his production moniker, Wicked Lester) made a name for himself as an inventive mash-up artist, long before the hipsters and Ableton/Serato remixers started hybridizing newer forms of electronica. In the early days of Vancouver’s embryonic 90s rave scene, Scott discovered new ways to play almost anything he found himself identifying with. He would sensibly stack electronic releases with dusty and forgotten b-sides and solid gold hits…not neglecting any of his own personal tailgate favorites, all during a time when classifications and sub-genres were few and far between. Vinyl Ritchie was one of the first club DJ’s in Western Canada to find such new ways to bring the most unassuming mixes to life.
Coined, “Canada’s King of the 45’s…” he’s better known for his near religious obsession with ‘vinyl only’ sets. He’s demonstrated lengthy 45 sets at festivals, and to this day, albeit much easier to travel these days with simply a laptop, he’ll still insist on playing a straight vinyl set whenever possible. Ask, and he’ll gladly carry 4 record bags onto a plane over 1 laptop case any day. Vinyl Ritchie can and will command virtually any type of room. It’s all in the formula – a critical balancing act between his unpretentious approach to melody, and his dedication to all things enormously fun. Give him a solid couple of hours, and watch him throw down some big, bottom-heavy beats to conduct any crowd into a complete frenzy.
Now a globally sought-out DJ and a regular fixture at various annual festivals, he continues to lay down his no-nonsense brand of music both on stage, and in the studio. Deemed by multiple counter culture publications and by musicians and peers alike as the #1 underground party rocker to exist in Vancouver, he continues to test the cusp between Hi-Fi and Lo-Fi with his bold and bridging sets. Staying true to his wax obsession, he continues to lug his crates to anywhere that will allow him to.
Friday, June 18th starting at 6pm PST. See you on the virtual dancefloor!
