So, today we’re thrilled to be sitting down in conversation with this exciting talent and invite you to join us as we delve behind the scenes of ‘Ray Of Light (Avi Sic Edit)’.
Hi Avi Sic, thanks for joining us today. How are you?
I’m well, getting some really great traction on this edit.
To start, can you tell us, what inspired you to create a remix of Madonna’s ‘Ray Of Light’?
Madonna is hands down my favorite Artist. I make edits of her songs often so they can best fit in my sets. I typically keep those to myself but decided to do a release with Rock Bottom Records again.
Which elements of the original did you work to maintain in your rework of the track?
I wanted to keep the guitar elements in there. I chopped them up, threw some gaters on, added different filters and that all worked nicely.
Can you walk us through your creative process when approaching the track? How did you start?
I found an acapella and instrumental version. I stripped out the guitar so I could play with that later. From there I created the arrangement with the drums. Then I wrote a fat and bouncy bassline. From there it was a lot of playing with synths and ear candy. I tend to add the vocals last on most of my productions.
Does your process for reworking a track differ at all from when you work on original productions?
My process is never exactly the same no matter what track it is, original or an edit/remix. But I tend to lock in drums and bass first, then the melodic and lead elements after that.
The soundscape features a bouncy bassline and rhythmic elements that work in conversation with the vocals. Can you tell us how you approached structuring the track and ensuring that the different elements of the mix shined through?
I toyed with cutting the vocals much shorter like using only a phrase or two throughout the track but I’m so in love with the verses and the pre-chorus that I decided to maintain much of the original vocals.
Which elements of the track do you think are most important to creating its overall energy?
The bassline and the leads. I think keeping some qualities of the original – like the guitars – gives the track power and tension.
How do you think this remix showcases your skills and unique sounds as a Producer?
It’s a total flip. Most elements are original – it’s not like I just added Tech House drums. I find those types of remixes lazy. Everything is original while still maintaining a connection to the original.
How did you balance staying true to the original essence of the track while ensuring your own unique style came through?
It’s a fun track you can dance to, much like the original. I didn’t want to get too deep or too dirty with it. I wanted to maintain the core of her original intention.
Can you share with us your upcoming plans? Are there any more tracks set for release soon that you can tell us about now?
Yes indeed! I have an original that comes out in February on Curbi’s label Seeing Is Believing. It will be my second collaboration with Valy Mo – we’re very excited about it. It’s a huge track. And I just released a remix of Matroda & Palovich’s ‘That Funk You Want’. It’s a free download on my Soundcloud so definitely get it while you can.
On a path to continue bringing energetic, electrifying listens to her fans, Avi Sic remains a talent to keep watching within the genre. So, make sure to keep this talented Producer and DJ on your radar by following her across social media today.
