Australian artist Lemonade Baby is coming back to us this week (for our greatest pleasure) with his new single ‘Ex Best Friend’, being released via Mammal Sounds Records.

Sidekick Music‘s team had the chance to have a chat with him for the occasion – to discuss production process, music, the rest of the year 2021, and much more… Enjoy!

Hi Brannon, thanks for your time! Well, first of all, can you tell us more about Lemonade Baby?

Heeeeeyyy! no… thank you…

My name is Brannon also known as the artist ‘Lemonade Baby’ and I’m based in Brisbane (Australia).

In the wake of ‘Is It Too Late’, you now release ‘Ex Best Friend’ – catchy title! What’s the story behind it

thanks! I honestly heard a friend talk about their “ex-best friend” and thought it would be a great concept to write about. But at the time I had a lot of conversations about ‘friendship’ with my partner and close friends and so I drew inspiration from those chats too.

What’s your creative process for making music? Maybe do you have some tips to share?

I’ve been going through a real journey of refining my process but lately I’ve been starting with chords or a loop and then free-styling a melody and lyrics.

As far as advice goes I’d say don’t forget how music makes you feel. In my opinion music is about feeling, not theory.

Are there any artists that you would love to collaborate with, or artists that you would dream to work with?

I’d love to work on a Kanye album or a Travis Scott album!

Tyler the Creator would be fun too! but to work with Benny Blanco or Calvin Harris would be a dream come true.

I like a lot of artists so there’s definitely more on the list.

What are next month’s highlights for you, any releases ahead? Maybe touring plans?

I’ve got another single coming late this year! And then its Christmas! tbh i have no plans for a tour, but then again…. maybe?! who knows…
