Electric Consciousness 011: BaNkaJI delivers a journey mix traversing the realms of DnB, hip-hop, deep dub, downtempo, & more

One widely-held truth that everyone can seem to agree on is this: Life is hard, and it doesn’t get any easier. We just get tougher. As one gains more and more life experience, it becomes crucial to practice everyday balance—spontaneity with routine, work with play, control with letting go, and tuning out the world by tuning into the body. Life is a balancing act.

That’s why Conscious Electronic is practicing balance with our Electric Consciousness guest mix series. Bringing you the latest in bass music— from heavy to experimental, tribal to future and funk, left-field to half-time, and more! This monthly mix series features artists on CE’s radar as they shape their growing discography, showcase what they’re currently listening to, and forecast what’s hot in the underground bass world.

Around his stomping grounds of Denver, rising bass producer BANkaJI stands out amongst a crowded pack. Nicknamed the “Bass Capitol” of the United States, the city pulls in some of the top electronic artists from around the world. BANkaJI is becoming recognized for his unique creative force as he draws influence from anime and aliens and brings them into his glitchy, grimy soundwaves. This signature sonic stamp has earned the rising bass producer releases on notable bass imprints like Spicybois, Headbang Society, Wubaholics, Sacred Hive, Subsiety, and more.

Opening for such from Wreckno and ANTENNAE to the late, great CharlestheFirst, BANkaJI’s sound is heavily rooted in sound system culture and matched by his technical prowess behind the decks. That much is reflected in his most recent mixtape, which he stopped by to deliver for CE‘s eleventh installment of Electric Consciousness.

At times meditative and ethereal, and others heavy and glitchy, the mix clocks in at just over 49 minutes with its gorgeous highs, paralyzing drops, and spine-tingling low ends. The journey-filled adventure sees BANkaJI taking his listeners through some of his favorite electronic genres, including peaks marked by drum-n-bass, breaks, deep dub, and some perfectly timed valleys filled with uplifting downtempo. The mix itself sounds as if you’re on a “14er” hiking up and down the mountains of his Colorado stomping grounds.

“[I] packed this mix full of unreleased tracks.  I have been working on multiple different genres lately from Drum & Bass to Trap.  Excited to have people listen to this mix and check out the new music I have been working on.”

– BaNkaJI

Playing bass-focused music festivals like Wakaan Festival, Sound Haven, and Dubaween, and breaking the 5K following threshold on SoundCloud just last year, BaNkaJI is only just getting started. This is one rising bass music artist you’ll want to keep your eyes and ears peeled for while he’s emerging out of the underground, which is why we’re delighted to have the Denver-based producer in for our latest Electric Consciousness mixtape.
