His energetic sound has earned him spots on major charts, like the Beatport Indie Dance Top 100. And while he keeps aiming high and dropping remarkable productions, we sat down with him to chat about one of his latest releases ‘Hialeah’ that’s been picking up some steam since its release, this is what he said.
Hi Hotboxx, how are you?
I am doing well, thank you for having me on.
‘Hialeah’ is out now, what inspired you to produce this track?
This was a track that was inspired after a trip to Colombia where I listened to a lot of afro style and cumbia style tracks that really pushed me to want to make something similar. I am Latino myself so have always been inspired by this kind of music but the trip really pushed me to make and release something of that style. What are the main musical or sonic influences for the song?
Just general Latin vibes, especially noted with the guitar, vocal and percussion. Tried to make a 4×4 track that didn’t really sound 4×4 with off claps, tons of conga and bongos and bouncy bass to tie it together. Just general Latin vibes, especially noted with the guitar, vocal and percussion. I was happy with the results, I also named it after the city I was raised in as it is a primarily Latin city that barley feels like America, right when I was done, I felt it just had the feel of the city.
How does this track differ from previous releases?
It is a bit more percussive and less melodic than some of my previous releases and in reality, it is really what is on the way for me as a musician. I plan on releasing more tracks of this style, and in general, releasing more percussive Dance tracks that focus on keeping people dancing and grooving not just taking them on a journey.
What would you like to achieve with this track?
Show people I am not one dimensional in the music I make and show people if they come see a Hotboxx show it will be a party environment with music to dance, and dance a lot as this track shows through the drum and bass patterns.
When did you know ‘Hialeah’ was ready?
You never really know when a track is done but I started playing it out seeing people’s reactions, as well as just realizing that when I can’t easily come up with another idea, I should probably step away and let that project be, if not I’ll drive myself crazy.
How long did it take you to finish this production?
This track came together quickly probably took me a total of about 4-5 hours of work.
Can you describe the track using 3 words?
Sexy, Percussive, Latin
What’s coming up for Hotboxx?
More music of this sort, more party geared tracks to keep people dancing. A lot more new music on the way as well as shows, I look forward to growing myself as an artist and helping the electronic music scene grow as well.
