Insomniac’s Electric Daisy Carnival returned to Orlando, Florida for another year of celebration. From November 11-13, 2022 attendees from all over the country and even the world, gathered and danced under the electric sky. Just a day after Hurricane Nicole struck Florida, Insomniac was able to pull off the incredible stage design and production that attendees look forward to every year. While EDCO will always have a special place in our hearts, read below for a full breakdown of our review.
Vibes: C
EDC Orlando brings a crowd from all over. While most attendees seemed to be PLUR and enjoying their time, we felt there was a lot of pushing and shoving in the crowd. Along with that, there was an extreme amount of phone theft reported. When moving through crowds remember that a simple “excuse me” goes a long way.
Production: B+
The production and art we saw at EDC Orlando make you feel as if you stepped into a new world. From larger-than-life stage design, fireworks and drone show, performers, and so much more, the production is what makes EDC so special. The stage design of Kinetic Field was absolutely breathtaking and Neon Garden was completely transformed from the year before. In some areas, we felt the sound was lacking or bleeding between stages and Neon Garden should have been bigger to accommodate large crowds.
Venue: C
EDC Orlando takes place at Tinker Field which borders the Camping World Stadium. The festival grounds are fairly spread out and connect along Rainbow Road and Daisy Lane. Day 2 felt extremely overcrowded specifically at Neon Garden, Kinetic Field, and when traveling from stage to stage. While Tinker field has been home to EDCO for quite some time, we believe it may be time to find a new venue. The venue felt oversold on Day 2 and Day 3 leaving little room to move or even get into stages. We felt at times there were serious safety hazards, especially at John Summit’s set. While this is in no way the artist’s fault, it does shine a light on the severe overcrowding at venues we have seen this year.
We felt security was lacking while entering the festival as once again there were no metal detectors and bags were barely checked.
Production: B+
Our favorite part of EDC is the wide variety of genres represented on the lineup. From house to techno to dubstep and everything in between, there is a style of music for everybody. In addition, the lineup includes some of the biggest names in dance music as well as new artists you’ve never heard of. This year featured names like Alison Wonderland, Zeds Dead, DJ Snake, Chris Lake, Charlotte de Witte, and so much more. Neon Garden held a legendary B3B featuring Dom Dolla, Green Velvet, and John Summit. Hard Dance was not represented, unfortunately.
Overall: B-
Overall, EDC Orlando will always be a festival we look forward to celebrating. We believe the lineup and production make the experience worth it while the venue and vibes are unreliable. It was clear that Day 2 was completely oversold and made the experience more overwhelming and hectic. It is possible that EDCO has outgrown the Tinker Field venue. There should be changes to the location or possibly the number of tickets sold. Either way, we had an overall great time and look forward to being reunited under the electric sky next year!
