Q&A : Jungle By Night Release New Instrumental Album ‘Algorhythm’

After more than a decade of heating up dance floors and 6 released albums, the nine-headed instrumental collective Jungle by Night melted their years of passion, friendship, and wide range of influences together into a new analogue composition named ‘Algorythm’.

With this new analogue album, “JbN” bursts our bubble and reminds us to surrender to being human. With styles such as Dance, Funk, Jazz  and KrautRock, mixed into a completely unique and inclusive genre of danceable music: Analog Dance Music, the band invites us to live in the moment and welcome serendipity. The oddball ensemble exists within its own cosmos and serves us a danceable and thundering live act, connecting with crowds like no other, with beaming fun and energy along the way.

More than a review, Sidekick Music‘s team had the chance to have a chat with the band for the occasion – to discuss the album, music, lockdown, and more… Enjoy!

Hey guys, such a pleasure to have you! So, could you introduce yourself in a few words?

We Are a Nine piece groove machine playing explosive dance music!

You just released your brand new album Algorhythm recently. What a masterpiece!
‘E17 Snacks’ caught our attention in particular: what’s your recipe to cook this kind of treat? Any inspirations?

The recipe consists of the mirepoix: E17 snack, witch is a diner on the outskirts of Antwerp. Its the place where a lot of musicians go to eat when returning home. And the main ingredients are a potpourri of everything we listen to in the bus on the way over there, like lcd Soundsystem or Soulwax.

Speaking of the album, maybe do you have an anecdote about this one?

Yea sure! Because we could not see each other during the lockdown, we created all songs from our homes individually. The moment we could play those ‘home created’. Songs in real life for the first time felt really special and overwhelming

We’re now at more than a year of pandemic, and it seems like this is never- ending… How have you held up during lockdowns, and what has kept you creative?

Because of COVID we could not see each other in our Studio which forced us to work from our home studio’s. We stayed in contact trough google drive and skype. This created a different way of being creative and gave us the right energy to keep creating.

You’re always experimenting new sounds. Is it important for you not to stick in just one genre?

Yeah finding new sounds and inspirations is a big part of our journey as a band being together for so many years. It’s al starts with sharing music while on the road.

Last but not least, what single night out has been the most memorable for you as performers?

We are with nine guys in total… so we have many nights to choose from. Our night out in Tokyo after playing Fuji Rock is definitely one we will never forget.
