As drum-n-bass gradually makes its long-overdue return into EDM-mainstream attention, many bass music aficionados are projecting 2022 will be the “year of DnB.” As such, 19K label boss Dirt Monkey and Seattle’s Kumarion are introducing some core drum-n-bass elements gradually onto the masses in their genre-melding new collaboration.
Out now on Deadbeats, “CONKA” juxtaposes slow-moving bass lines and experimental low-end sounds against a frenetic, fast-paced 180 backdrop. Of course, this is the bpm that categorizes the drum-n-bass genre. While the track sees Dirt Monkey stepping away from his ragga/jungle flavored dubstep and Kumarion out of his familiar comfort zone, “CONKA” creates something entirely new and refreshing to add to their respective catalogs.
With the established veteran and hotly rising star joining forces on Deadbeats, Dirt Monkey and Kumarion working together was a natural fit; especially after the two became road mates on the former’s 40-stop Depolarize Tour last year. Both artists also released remixes of Zeds Dead‘s summer single, “Alive.” Needless to say, the production pair are truly ahead of the curve on what sounds are up on the near horizon.
“CONKA” follows Kumarion’s late-2021 single “Aura,” and marks Dirt Monkey’s first original release since his Depolarize LP in September.
